Admin Pro Week
“The exceptional administrative professional is grace, skill, mental toughness, problem solving, positivity, endless smiles, genius, and desired outcomes in motion.” – Ty Howard Happy Administrative Professionals Week from UAEOP! A secretary, as a definition at Merriam-Webster.com reads, “one employed to handle correspondence and manage routine and detail work for a superior”. Obviously they never visited an educational office! When was the last time you had a routine day?!? Even administrative assistant, first used in 1841, is defined as “a person whose job is to support an executive, group, department, or organization especially by handling administrative tasks (such as data entry, correspondence, filing, and scheduling appointments)” does not define what we do every day. As we are celebrating Administrative Professionals Week, I would like to thank all of you for the fantastic job you do daily for your school or office in frequently less than routine circumstances. Thank you for being Amazing Administrative Assistants! Enjoy YOUR week! Mary Meyers, CEOE UAEOP President Dear UAEOP Members,
Visit www.naeop.org or click https://www.flipsnack.com/schnorenberg5263/2019-naeop-annual-conference-summit-guide-fdt3g98fh.html for information on the 2019 NAEOP Annual Conference. The conference will be July 15-19 in Boise ID. There will be scholarships for current, active UAEOP members to help defray some expenses not covered by your workplace. The amount available will be determined after all the expenses for the celebration, student scholarship, other bills, etc. have been paid and it will also depend on how many members are going to Boise. If you are interested in attending the conference, contact Sherry Wilson so she can add your name to our list. We’re also coordinating carpools and hotel rooms. Thanks to all who attended & contributed to making our final UAEOP event successful. We missed those of you who were not able to be there. As mentioned, we don’t want to lose the connections we have made so on a couple of Saturdays a year (March & October) we will announce a “Time Retreat” and if you can come great, if not, hopefully we’ll see you the next time. The time retreat activities might be a visit to a museum or just gathering together, bringing a long forgotten project you want to finish and chatting. Our first date is set for October 12th so mark that on your calendar and watch your email for details. The website will be up for several months (parts of it may never go away since things on the web tend to last forever). If you want anything in the members only section such as past issues of the BuzzLine or conference materials, you can download those. We’ll continue to post things on the website, blog, and social media sites and produce a final issue of the BuzzLine after we return from Boise. “Nothing contributes so much to tranquilize the mind as a steady purpose-- a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye." - Mary Shelley This quote was sent to me many years ago by a dear friend and has given me many hours of quiet contemplation. Our UAEOP theme of “Learn · Connect · Grow” also follows along this line of setting goals for ourselves. When you decide to learn something new, you also have an opportunity to connect with an idea or with others and, as a result, you grow. Having a steady purpose and opportunities to grow in my life has helped to tranquilize my mind and helped me focus on the positive side of life. The beginning of a new school year always has some bumps in the road and chaos close at hand. Setting our minds eye on the positives in life, help us as we travel long these bumpy roads of life’s highway. The Splashes Of Life My grandfather took me to the fishpond on the farm when I was about seven and he told me to throw a stone into the water. He told me to watch the waves created by the stone, and then he asked me to think of myself as that stone. "You may create a lot of splashes in your life, but remember the waves that come from those splashes will affect the peace of all your fellow creatures," he said. "Remember that you are responsible for what you throw into your circle, and that your waves will touch many other circles. Always try to live in a way that the waves that come from your circle send out the peace of your goodness to other circles." "Remember the waves that come from anger and jealousy will also send those feelings to other circles. You are responsible for all the waves." That was the first time I realized each person creates the inner peace or discord that flows out into the world. We cannot create world peace if we are riddled with inner conflict, hatred, doubt and anger. We radiate the feelings and thoughts that we hold inside whether we voice them or not. Whatever is sloshing around inside of us is spilling out into the world, creating beauty or discord with all the other circles of life. –Author Unknown (Story found at motivateus.com) Remember the eternal wisdom: WHATEVER YOU FOCUS ON EXPANDS... Wishing you all a great school year with lots of chances to “Learn, Connect, and Grow.” A shout out to all our awesome administrators across our great state of Utah for your great leadership!
